E-Commerce

So I have been trying to figure out how to add e-commerce to my blog for the past 2 weeks but I couldn't figure it out. The stress I had from classes and the frusturation from it not working was not mixing well so I decided I would try again. I finally did it! I became both an affiliate for Amazon and I signed up to host Google Adwords. For Amazon, I added two product links for one of my favorite designers Marc Jacobs, and a search box link that will take the customer back to the Amazon website when they do a search. Then, for Google Adsense, I added a google search box that can be found at the bottom of my blog site. I think my site turned out pretty good.

Matthew McConaughey is one of my all time favorite actors. Over the past few months I have been editing his wikipedia article to contribute to the community and add some information that has not yet been noted. I must say that it has been extremely hard because so much was written on him before I even began. For my first edit, I chose to add a movie to the selected filmography section that was not listed on the chart. I added the movie Glory Daze that was filmed in 1996 in which Matthew played a rental truck delivery guy. My second edit to the article was two minor details. I added that he was the youngest of three boys and that he was voted most handsome his senior year of high school. The last edit I made was the addition of two new movies that were just announed that he will be starring in, in 2007. First is Hammer Down and the second is Dear Deliah.

Over the past couple of months I have been making edits to the wikipedia article for Syosset High School located on Long Island, NY. The first edit I made was very minor. I added the street that Syosset High School is located on, Southwoods Road. The second edit I made had a little bit more substance. I added a new section called Interesting Facts where I listed interesting facts about the school. The last edit I made was the addition of the school's mission statement, but someone after me has taken it out of the article.

I just made my final edit to my high school's wikipedia article, Syosset High School. I added the mission statement of the school which is to produce graduates who have the skills necessary to think analytically, communicate clearly, and perform independent and cooperative tasks effectively. Syosset High School offers students of all abilities and learning styles the opportunity to cultivate their individual talents and interests. We believe it is essential to introduce our young people to a variety of educational experiences, career paths and vocational options, including computer-based tasks, to prepare students to live in a rapidly changing environment. Furthermore, we must instill in each individual a sense of community by fostering understanding of and respect for others.

So as you may have noticed if you scroll down my blog you will see that I now have a site meter that counts the number of people that visit my blog. I got this site counter by going to Bravenet.com There I registered for a site meter, picked out how I wanted it to look, linked my blog to the meter and edited my template to add it in the sidebar. Now I can see how many people visit my site!

Summary of Jennifer Aniston Wikipedia Edits

As I posted my last edit to the wikipedia article for Jennifer Anison I realized I was very proud of myself. For my first edit I added a film that Jennifer was in but was it was not listed in the filmography section. I added the movie Dream for an Insomniac in which Aniston played Allison in 1996. Searching for something to add to the site was hard especailly because SO much information was already listed there already. For my second edit, I added another movie that Jennifer Anitson acted in but was not listed, 'Til There Was You. In this movie Jennifer Aniston played Debbie in 1997. Since there was already another movie listed under that year, I had to learn to reformat the chart so that 2 movies could be listed. For my last edit, I learned that 2 new movies that Jennifer was going to star in was just announed so I added that to the filmography secion.

So as I look back on my edits that I have made to the Alpha Epsilon Phi wikipedia webpage I am proud. Although each change was minor, I think that each change is important because every little piece of information helps to make the webpage better. The first edit I made was that I added my sorority's national magazine which is known as Columns. Every sorority and fraternity has colors that represent their chapter. My colors are green and white and although it was already listed there I thought it was important to explain what the colors represented. This is what I edited in my second edit I added that Green represents growth and white represents fellowship. The last edit I made was I added the mission of the sorority. The mission for my sorority is to inspire and support exemplary women dedicated to friendship and a lifelong commitment to Alpha Epsilon Phi while building on the vision of our Jewish founders. Although each of these edits are minor, I believe that they have made a huge impact. A sorority is something that is not supposed to have an unlimited amount of information available to others and that on it's own makes it hard to find information to add to the wikipedia article.

MySpace Skype Interview

So the last time I blogged about MySpace was in the beginning of the semester. I heard about it at a concert I was at but was not familiar with it at all. This week in class, we had a skype interview with Travis Katz, a VP at MySpace. Before the presentation, I knew that people had an account with MySpace and a profile about themselves and it first started as a place for bands to post their music for people to hear them. I found it extremely interesting when Travis was telling us that not only are people using it to make personal profiles but companies are now using to promote their brands.

Ads are everywhere!

Advertising today is everywhere! You can't escape it. I was reading one the blog postings on Scobleizer. In this article Nick Bradbury brought up some issues since Microsoft wants to get more involved in advertising. Today, many companies are finding it hard to reach consumers due to TiVo, digital cable, sirius radio and XM radio. With these new products, consumers no longer need to sit and listen/watch commercials. It is now more important for companies to find new ways to promote their products. Pop-ups on the computer are so annoying and blogs are becoming more and more popular as each week passes. But at the same time, flooding consumers will ads will just be as ineffective. I tend to "X" out of the pop-ups on my computer before I even notice what the ad is for. Finding new places to "stick?" ads is not going to help out companies, they need to think of an idea that will be effective as opposed to a spot that is just available.

So i was reading some of the blog posts on Slashdot and I came across one that was interesting. BearShare, one of the programs that people used to use to download music, has been shut down by the RIAA. There is going to be a $30 million dollar settlement with the music industry. I think that downloading music illegally without paying for it is not right but at the same time when do you ever buy a full cd and want every song on it? Apple has created a brilliant program called iTunes. This program which is available to those who do not have an iPod as well, is organized and has every song as well as podcasts, and television shows. Each song is $0.99. I think this is the way to buy music of the future.

So I was reading my teammates blogs today and came across one that Hans wrote about podcasting. I think that podcasting is a really interesting concept and is going to be huge in the next few years. I recently did an informative speech in my communications class and the topic I chose was about Ipods and how they benefit college studentsas well as podcasting. Many professors today at other colleges are recording their lectures and uploading them onto the internet in such a way so that students can listen to their lectures on their ipod so they can listen to them as they wish. I also think that podcasting lectures are a good for audio learners. Although this concept is still relatively new, I think that it is a brilliant idea and will help students learn in the future. Can't wait to see what the future holds...

Jennifer Aniston

I just made my last wikipedia edit to my Jennifer Aniston article. It is hard to find information to add when so much information about her is already there. Once again I edited the "Selected Filmography" Section. I added two new movies that she just announced she will be starring in. The first movie, is called Wanted and the title of her character in that role will be announced later. The second movie that was announced is called Diary and she will be playing the role as Kathryn Fayer. Both movies are said to be coming out in 2007. As a huge Jennifer Aniston fan, I can't wait!!

It's getting harder to edit my wikipedia article for Matthew McConaughey. Why? Because all the information that most people know about him is already on his article. For my second edit I decide to make 2 small changes. The first edit i made was about his family. Originally it said he was the youngest of 3 children, but since he has 2 brothers, I edited the sentence to "the youngest of 3 boys." The second small edit I made was that Matthew was voted the most handsome his senior year of high school. Although both of these edits were extremely small every minor change helps.

Today I made my second wikipedia edit to my high school, Syosset High School. I decided to add an entirely new section, "Interesting Facts." In this section I added the following facts: 99% of the students attend college, the SAT scores in the high school are above both the state and national average, over 40 students are accepted into an ivy league schools each year, AP courses are available in each subject area, and there are 105 clubs that students can join. I thought that these facts were interesting since many schools are not like Syosset High School.

A few weeks ago I did a vanity search on Google and typed in my name, Lindsey Zucker to see what came up. Nothing related to myself was listed unless I typed in more information such as University of Delaware. So today I randomly decided to type in my name again to see what would come up, and to my suprise my blog is #1!! It was pretty cool to see my blog listed as the number one, even though its there because I used my name multiple times throughout the blog to increase my google juice.

So this morning I decided to edit two more of my wikipedia articles. My two favorite actors of all time,
Matthew McConaughey's wikipedia article and Jennifer Aniston'swikipedia article. In both articles, I realized that movies they have been in were not listed in the "selected filmography" section of the article. In Matthew_Mcconaughey's article, I added his small role in Glory Daze (1996)where he had a minor role as a rental truck guy. I added that role to the movie list.
In Jennifer Aniston's wikipedia article I realized that her role in 'Til There Was You. In this movie that was released in 1997, Aniston played Debbie. I added this to the fimography chart but since there was already another 1997 movie listed, I had to reformat the chart so that the year 1997 would show there was more then one movie.

Vanity Search

So the other day I decided to go to Google and type in my name, Lindsey Zucker, to see what would come up when i searched. Nothing related to myself was found and since Lindsey Zucker is not a common name, the only that came up was websites that contained both the names Lindsey and the name Zucker. On the other hand, when i typed in, Lindsey Zucker University of Delaware, i was suprised to find my blog was ranked number 2 on the search output. Although my blog was ranked high up because of the search words I used, it was exciting to see my blog listed there as a top site. When i went to MSN.com and typed in Lindsey Zucker, my name was shown first from one of my teammates blogs, Ryan's Blog. This search output can be seen by clicking this link. Hopefully by the end of the semester, I will be able to type in my name alone, Lindsey Zucker, and have my blog appear as one of the top listed websites when searched. In other words, I am going to try to increase my google juice.

Last Summer

Last summer I held an internship at the corportate office of 1800 Flowers. Most people are not aware that the company owns many brands such as The Popcorn Factory, Plow and Heath, Hearth Song, and Magic Cabin. Over the summer, I was given the task along with 3 other interns to help start a new brand within the company. This brand, unlike the rest was going to be a party website called Celebrations.com. This website was going to be a one-stop site where a customer can go to in order to get everything that was needed to plan the party. Themes were made for different ages, income levels, cultures, and type of party. Over the summer they began to teach us alot about Google and how the search works. I found it interesting to come to class and I was able to apply what I learned over the summer to BUAD477. I learned over the summer all about Search Engine Optimization. We researched keywords that consumers type in when looking to plan a party and the goal was to use those words in order to increase our ranking on Google. Unfortunately, the website has yet to be launched so I can not attach a link to the work that I have completed last summer. Hopefully before this semester is over, I will be able to show you our creation.

So I've been reading a lot of these feeds I have been getting through Bloglines. I can across an interesting one today on Slashdot. This blog was talking about how CBS is going to pair up with SignStorey Inc. to provide customers in supermarkets with approximately 2 minute videos in the produce and deli sections of a supermarket. These televisions will be set up and will talk about nutrition and health, along with news and sports. Although this is unconventional I think that this idea is brilliant. The world today has become to health crazed and so fast paced that putting televisions to give health tips while food shopping along with news is a great idea. My supermarket at home has televisions on the checkout line that displays both cooking shows as well at commericals for products that are sold in the store. Once again, companies have come out with another marketing tool.

I was reading my teammates blog and I read an article that he wrote in response to the Diva Marketing blog that we are required to subscribe to for class. Ryan's blog was talking about how some students are getting penalized for posting their thoughts about on thier blogs. I believe that this is runfair because blogs are a place to say your thoughts and ideas and these blogs, to what I know, are not directly affiliated with the University. Although to some extent I can see why action may need to occur because the name of the student can still be linked to the University.

Why is MySpace so popular?

Today I read one of my Scobleizer feeds I receieve through Bloglines. This blog was about MySpace. I never really understood why my space was so big and why it caught on fast. Recently I have been hearing a lot about MySpace. Maybe its because more people are starting to use it? Maybe its because now that I'm taking a class where I am learning about more online technology I am becoming aware of what is occuring on the internet more? Possibly both are true...althought I'm not quite sure. About 3 weeks ago, I attended the Matt Nathanson concert at the University of Delaware and he kept telling everybody to become his friend on MySpace. This goes along with what I was reading on the Scobleizer blog. The blog talks about how MySpace has become so big and the number one reason on the list was that "influential users in Hollywood were among the first users. This makes perfect sense considering that many people, especially teenagers who tend to use MySpace the most also tend to look up to celebrities. It also goes on to talk about how MySpace has become a huge hit because they listen to their consumers wants and needs, while similiar sites such as Friendster are telling their consumers what NOT to do. Although MySpace is something I may not be interested in, I can see that the trend it catching on fast!

RSS Feeds

So this week in class we had a skype presentation with Dana VanDen Heuvel from Pheedo. Before I took this class, I haven't really heard that much about online marketing and RSS feeds, in fact I haven't heard of it at all. I've seen blogs before but I never really thought twice about it before or realized the impact that it is now having on the world and how if affects companies worldwide. The concept of RSS, I believe, is brilliant. There is so much media clutter all over and each day so much information is thrown at you. RSS solves this problem by letting consumers/readers pull in news and information across the Web without being bomboarded with information that isn't really wanted at all. The fact that this whole concept is "opt-in" and consumer controlled really makes me believe that RSS will without a doubt be bigger in the future. The fact that RSS is the fastest growing internet channel today does not suprise me at all. This concept is not only great for consumers but it benefits the marketers/companies as well. I think that this concept is more effective, in most cases, as opposed to the online advertisements, banners, and pop-ups that we are all exposed to today. The fact that consumers can subscribe to their feeds of their choice, and on their own, means that information that marketers push out is being read by their consumers that actually care and are interested. Podcasting is interesting to me as well. Although I have never listened to a podcast online, I am a current user of iTunes. I think that this web 2.0 technology is truely the marketing of the future.

So, today I edited my second wikipedia article. Someone I always admired was Jennifer Aniston. I grew up watching Friends, my absolute all time favorite show so I figured this was a great article to edit. As I started to read this wikipedia article I realized that not every movie she has been on was listed in the filmography section. So i decided to add the movie, Dream for an Insomniac. Jennifer Aniston played Allison in the movie in 1996.
